Newsletter Diani Children’s Village
June 2006

In the previous newsletter we informed you about the two new babies at the home.
Emmanuel is now nearly 8 months old, we are still looking for any information which hopefully will lead us to his mother. Henry is 5 months old and his mother was found and is currently serving her time in prison.

On the 12th of May a newborn baby-girl was abandoned somewhere in the bush not far from Lunga Lunga along the Tanzanian border. The baby, called Joy, was found totally naked and after spending probably most of the night in the bush, she had a lot of wounds and bites. She was also quite underweight and currently at almost one month, she weighs 1.4 kg. However there is hope for Joy, the family of the gentleman who rescued her, is interested in adopting her. During the next few weeks we hope to be able to formalise this with the Children’s Department.

The construction of the accommodation for the older children has started and is progressing very well. Initially we planned to build only the first phase of the house. However as funds raised successfully during several events both locally and internationally, we decided also to go ahead with the second phase of the construction. This means that both our older boys and girls will have a place to stay until they finish their education and are ready to live by themselves. If all goes well, we hope to finish the project within the next few weeks.

The workshop has done very well during the last few months. The eggs produced at our layers project are more and more popular. Unfortunately the roof on the house of the broilers project had to be changed as it was leaking badly during the rainy season, which affected the production for some time.

On behalf of all the children, staffmembers and committee-members, we would like to thank you for your great support.

With best regards
DCV Team
