Newsletter Diani Children’s Village
March 2006

The beginning of the year 2006 started with an addition of 2 new children at the Village.

One of the children is a 12 year old girl, Lydia, who lost her parents a few years ago and has been living on the streets of Mombasa for quite some time. She is now settling down and has started to attend school.
The other child is a small baby, who was rescued from a toilet in which he was thrown immediately after birth. He has suffered some infections but is now improving, the children have named him Henry.

During our annual event, “The Fun Run”, which took place in December 2005, we were able to raise funds for part of the construction of the accommodation for the older children. Soon we hope to start with the foundation and continue building as funds come in.

The free-range chicken-layers project which started in December 2005 has now taken-off and is doing very well. We are very proud to now have three self-generating income projects (furniture-workshop and two chickenprojects)

We are also happy to inform you that those children who sat for their K.C.P.E exam last year, have been accepted in secondary schools in different parts of the country.
